I will say that while I'm glad he wasn't grunting and trying to drag Sydney off by her hair, I would've enjoyed a little more "wildness" from him after he's first discovered. Michael is one of the most engaging heroes I've read in a while - he's contemplative and principled, intense but sensitive, innocent but masculine, and passionate without being aggressive. Our heroine Sydney is relatable and good-hearted, and I liked that she was mostly a proper lady for the period, not the cliché rebellious, hair-tossing, feisty hoyden. Almost too slow, but I found it appropriate for this particular plot and its lead characters. I guess I was expecting a bodice-ripper with a chest-beating alpha caveman of a hero, but I couldn't have been more wrong! This is quite a sweet, slow-burning romance. I was skeptical about this book, but intrigued and amused by the premise.
